ARISE Business Council Business Spotlight – Cabin Fever Floral and Gifts
Cabin Fever Floral and Gifts at 233 Park Street is owned and operated by Anne Churco Hoag. It is part of the larger Cabin Fever and Company, which also includes a hair and nail salon, therapeutic massage, tanning salon, reiki and teuila card reading.
Cabin Fever Floral and Gifts has been in business for the past five years and is open seven days a week.
Ms. Hoag says she decided to go into business in Tupper Lake because she is a native and saw a need for a place that offers flowers, gifts, and locally made products on a daily basis.
She hopes to expand her business in the next year or two, to include two part-time drivers and two part-time employees to assist her in the shop.
Ms. Hoag cites her experience as the thing that sets her business apart. She has more than 26 years in customer service, and more than 10 years floral experience.
She is proud to offer a variety of locally made products, including baskets, frames, lampshades, jewelry, candles, gourmet foods, and photography.
Ms. Hoag says the biggest challenge she’s faced in doing business is making people aware of the services she offers. She says that Cabin Fever and Company is a one-stop shop for brides and others.
The hardest lesson she’s had to learn, she says, is that “every day is different and you can’t think you know how it’s going to roll every day.”
She advises anyone thinking of starting a new business to “stick with it and don’t give up that easy.”
